Dacha
Maybe everybody has the dream of owning a little wooden house. I do. And I would fill it with simple, beautiful, useful things. Very slowly. A bit like this website…
My starting point is these images by Ivan Bilibin. His masterful illustrations pervaded my childhood in a set of slim books of Pushkin’s fairytales just within reach on the playroom shelves. Add Our Farm and Our Home by Carl Larsson, Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and of course my mother’s scuffed copies of the Little Grey Rabbit stories inscribed ‘To Anne’ in thick dark ink, and there from the depths of childhood is my aesthetic blueprint for the inside and outside of my very own little wooden house, or dacha as I like to call it.
Steppe
After years of travelling and living in Central Asia, I set up a magazine celebrating the arts and culture of the area with a great friend. That came to an end, but my interest in the region refuses to go away. So watch this space for inspiration from the steppe.
